Education and Health Care in Downers Grove, Illinois

Downers Grove, Illinois, is a small village with a population of around 40,000 residents. It is located about 25 miles west of the Chicago Loop area near O'Hare International Airport. The community has outstanding schools and health care facilities. 

About 90% of students graduating from Downers Grove High School pursue post-secondary education or military service, and three-quarters of these students attend four-year colleges. With 18 elementary schools, four middle schools, three high schools, two special education facilities, an Alternative High School for at-risk youth, and one technical school in the village limits, Downers Grove has many public educational institutions.

  • Carl Sandburg College is a community college located in Downers Grove. The school is known for its performing arts center. In addition to a one-year certificate program, the school offers a Bachelor of Applied Science in Organizational Leadership and a four-year Bachelor of General Studies degree. A baseball field with an indoor batting cage is located on the campus.
  • St. Francis College for Health Sciences is a Catholic college located in downtown Chicago, Illinois. The school offers five bachelor's degree programs: Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences; Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN); Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-MSN), and Bachelor of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics.
  • Moraine Valley Community College offers more than 150 courses both in-class and online. The school has a 14 to 1 student/faculty ratio, and its average class size is 22 students. The most famous study areas are business, engineering, health care, and manufacturing technology.

Downers Grove has a community hospital called Indian Oaks Medical Center. In addition to family physicians, this center offers physical therapy, diagnostic imaging, infusion therapy, a sleep disorder center, occupational medicine, home health services, and more.

The Township is home to two hospitals: Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital and Rush Copley Medical Center. Both are located at Ogden Avenue near the eastern border of the municipality, with entrances on Route 83 (also known as Butterfield Road). These two institutions serve Downers Grove and suburbs like Oak Brook, Westmont, Hinsdale, Lisle, and Lombard.
